[quote=""SOLID Bro!!""]If you buy this machine be careful what you expect it to do. The duty cycle is so small that it will weld about 3" of 1/8" aluminum and the thermal breaker will shut the machine down. Welding frames require a bunch of energy, to create the heat an...

Here's a shot of the front panel. It's got alot of knobs. https://bannedcr500...

After being quoted $2,500 to cut a frame and insert a "Y", I bought a 200 amp TIG. It added the learning curve into my build but I needed to know how to weld aluminum anyway. Several guys are using a MIG to weld theirs.

What's "tribute" about it besides being a CR500 and having gold wheels? It's like calling your bike a "works" bike cause you welded a billet "Y" on it.

Well, I wont be using the gen 1 forks. I have a set of 91' clamps and forks that I can use but with the limited performance of the early forks, I'm gonna see if my 94' 125 forks will fit. The 94' kyb's should be ok if they fit, right ? Thanks My 87' CR500 forks outperformed my 93' KX125 and my budd...

I bought an 01' CR125 a while back to convert. Silly me rebuilt the engine and have been riding it ever since. I always thought it was weird I prefer 125s and 500s. I've only owned 2 250s my entire life. Go figure.

i wondered why mike facher never started mass producing the Y. seems like he could of sold quit a few with all the people doing conversions. He most likely didn't because once someone gets their hands on one, it's easy to copy. Seems now it would have made him a hero instead of "that guy"...

Anyone have a use for, what I believe, is an 05-07 CRF450 airbox and boot? It was supposed to be an 07' CR125, go figure.

mugen replica? never heard of a mugen dirt bike. Seriously? Johnny O' Mara rode one. He claims it was better than the factory Honda Works bike he rode the next year. There are now more Mugen Hondas in existence than were ever built. I've seen several Mugen replica modern bikes and they all look lgo...

Re: Custom aluminum tanks:

While I wait on my engine I'm slapping an 01 YZ125 engine in a 2001 CR125 chassis. This is actually a very easy swap so far. Craigus I race an 01' CR125 along with the 87' CR500. Great chassis, slow as molasses stock. I'd love to see those pics of that swap if you don't mind. Here's an article on m...

Re: Custom aluminum tanks:

It's turned out harder than I thought and I still have to finish the bottom and fab the mounting points for the shrouds and seat. I should have gave it more capacity as it sits pretty low anyway. If starting again I'd make some changes. Craigus https://bannedcr500riders.com/images/auto/b2f389a76260...

It's a good balance between the arm ripping 85/86 and the later "sleeper" engines. I own an 87' and a spare 87' engine. I love 'em. They ALL make more power than you can use on a MX track.

I kinda look at it like this. 85 and 86 were arm snatching beasts. 87 and 88' were less brutal but a good compromise in my opinion between the 86 and the newer engines. If his 86' is mild compared to your 89' it is seriously worn out. When running correctly that 86' is as far from a 4 stroke, electr...

I agree on the fork, but the 85-86 shock sucks, the 87-88 is awesome. Agreed. Most people think that upside down forks are "superior" to conventional forks but they actually kinda sucked when they first came out. I haven't ridden a CR500 newer than a 94' but the fork didn't work as well a...

The upside down forks on the 89' suck. The forks on the 86' work and work well unless you're riding SX and who does that on a 500? The 86' engine is more explosive than the 89'. What's the 86' worth? Show a picture of it and you'll most likely get some replies.
