2nd gear skipping

Hey guys, a few days ago I was riding my 500af at a local park and I started having trouble with my second gear. At first I thought it was the chain skipping on the sprockets but then noticed that it only "skipped" when I was in second gear. It makes some horrible noises and to me sounds exactly the ...

91 500 "drag" porting

Hey guys I just got a new 09 500AF so I am planning on taking my 91 steelie and turning it into a 1/8th mile drag bike. I was wondering what you guys thought I should do as far as porting goes, I plan on doing the work myself and have never done it but this is going to be my project bike. I'm going ...

Either let the slow guys ride ahead or go first ride 20 minutes, take a 20 minute break, otherwise, like bob mentioned, bigger rads and over flow tank to take care of the hot sections.

Thank you kuma, I will most likely be doing that, the only problem is that most places I go with my slower ...

In short I want more power...

I ride in tight woods usually and I've overheated the bike a few times even without these up coming mods.

Learn to ride better.... till' it doesnt overheat. Then ( if you still think you need it) add the power.[/quote

I have no problem riding fast, That is ...

ANY mod should be the answer to a question....

"The mods I plan on doing in the next month are -
- Bored to 91mm
- Decked Head
- Boyesen Rad Valve
- Port and Polish"

Why are you boring it?

What do you think your going to get out of a shaved head?

Why do you think you need a Rad Valve ...

The only way to cool it better, is to ride faster....

You can increase boil over protection by doing a few things...

1. Soak rads in CLR over the weekend, and re-install.

2. Add a KX500 radiator cap. Its increased pressure will raise coolant boiling point.

3. Dont run too much coolant!! 75 ...

More cooling after engine mods

Hey guys,

I am getting my 1991 CR500 bored out to a 91mm with a wiseco piston as well as decking the head and port and polish. I was wondering what you guys would recommend as far as cooling the bike more. I ride in tight woods usually and it has been around 95-107 degrees here lately and I've ...

I have the same bottom end on my dune bike and run 15/44 gearing just to make up for honda's stupidity.
How fast does your dune 500 run? Is it useless for trails though?

1991 CR500R Stock Gearing?

Hey guys I am wondering what the stock gearing is on a 1991 CR500R.... I just got my bike and it has 14T and 48T. It seems like it is topping out at around 60 or 70? I am thinking this is geared really low because I just got rapped by my buddies 03 yz450F... Whats the deal here? I weigh almost ...

18"

As big as they sell. Shouldn't matter.

I live in Georgia and ride trails, rocky, muddy, georgia red clay. I think I will go with the 140 M5B and a 120 tube?

I think you'll be happy with it. You're not going to find anything that will give you "good" traction on that clay. But like ...

'91 widest tire?

Hey guys I am wanting a bigger tire for my new 1991 CR500. I was wondering how big I could go? I do woods riding and I can't get any traction with the 110 that is on it now. Over at thumpertalk.com a few said I could fit up to a 140. But I really don't want to order the IRC M5B 140 and then have it ...

New CR500 Owner!!!

Hey guys thought I'd join the site since I just picked up my first CR500 today, and also my first two stroke! I got a great deal on her and it's a 1987. I'm not exactly sure why it won't run yet but I think it just needs some carb work. I can't wait to ride the beast and see what they are all about ...

Older engines Vs. New?

Hello, I am new here, I am just getting into the CR500 club, I currently do not have a CR5, but I do have a 2006 CRF250X all modded out. I obviously have a lot of questions about the CR5. I was wondering if it is true that the older CR5 motors were more powerful and "faster" than the new ones ...
