I picked up my frame from the welder today and the first thing I noticed was square tubing. I asked for rounded corner tubing but he tells me his supplier can't get any. I tell him of a couple of places that I could get it myself!
I did not want to wait to do over so I took it home. Got the engine all lined up thanks to the all the info here but the angles looked odd. Put the tires on and you can see whats wrong.
The tubes are just tacked in so its not hard to replace. Should I take it back like it is now and replace one side at a time while getting things level? Or get one of you guys to bend me the CORRECT tubes, fit them and then take it to the welder? By the way don't worry about the open engine, I will be going thru it top to bottom.

OH come on!, 6063 is sooooo much better than 6061, and there's No Way you can form the bend in 6061T6 without annealing it...............AlisoBob wrote:mxdogger wrote:Looks like same guy that did ridereds did yours !
So said, in short form (by a Screw I think that's what he revealed himself to be, in day to day life) to a bloke that has worked with 6061 since he was in his early teens.
Perhaps he tested his beliefs whilst sitting in a watch tower, being lord over all he sees? But, he had his old welder (who admittedly does lovely welds) tell him the 'Facts', and that was how it was.
A 70 degree angle is a good mean angle to start with. It's easier if you cut templates out of cardboard to give yourself ideas on the shape of what you need.
I don't mind the engine angle as it is, it would give less squat to the rear end under acceleration ( what they did with 09/10 CRF 450s), but it does make the ancillaries a bit harder to do. A lot of blokes position their engines so as to induce more squat - I'm not sure if they know that's the result of their mounting. Each to his own, I guess. I've had a few people post that it makes no difference, but that ranks on the level of 6063 and squashed tubing......
Thats exactly the first thought that came to my mind!mxdogger wrote:Looks like same guy that did ridereds did yours !
BTW knobby, not to change the subject but I'm loving the bike in the background. While the fun factor the 500 is unmatched, If I was given the choice of "you can only have one bike" the YZ would be the one.
