89-91 gasket on 01 crankcase?

Post by thestuz »

Hey guys, ran into a little balls up this avo. was putting the crankcase back together and didnt realise the k&s gasket kit came with two crank case gaskets. i grabbed the green one in my haste and put it together. when i went to get the clutch cover gasket, i realised there was still another grey crank gasket. i read th back of the gasket kit and it said there were one for a 89-91 model and one for 90-01.
i couldn identify which one was the right one?
i measured the thickness and the one is installed was .05 mm thicker. other than that(without ripping the cases apart) i couldn see any difference inbetween them.

so, is it gonna be ok to continue the build with this gas (even though i dont which one)?

the gaskets have no markings on them to id themselves

the gasket i installed was green, the clutch cover gasket and the other crank gasket were a grey ncolour.
i dont particularly want to pull it appart again.
do it!... cos if you dont, youll spend the rest of your life thinking about it anyway!

If it was for 87-88 cases it would hang into the crankcase where the jug sits in, trim that and its same as 89-01
as for thickness, theres alot of endplay on the shafts usually, check the thrust on them by not having a sprocket on or a clutch basket, if theres any movement in and out on the shafts then your ok.
