Sean, You have any advice on where to go timing wise?

Yeah, I want to try a PC pipe for sure. To bad it was a Gnarly not a Fatty......

I'd go to WSP but I'm not currently a member of any race organization and you need a card to ride that open practice.... :(

dude mine started much easier with the 250 ignition. and the mid range is still there ,you just have to give it more throttle and it still power monos down low. i think it might be your timing is too advanced. i have an air gap of .4mm,that helped with the bog down low. good luck :D
do it!... cos if you dont, youll spend the rest of your life thinking about it anyway!

I actually really like the power delivery now,[still interested in the PC pipe though] because I think I'll be fastest [mx] with that smooth delivery.

I would like to be able to start it cold though..... ;)

what year ignition are you running? the old analog one right? pre 97 is analog. gettting the pilot jet right is the place to start. with the cold weather you will need to be a bit richer than normal. I'm better U R too rich on the pilot and that is the starting problem. I tried mine timing all the way advanced and retarded with the stock slots on the 01 plate and settled in the middle. Watch out for detonation...........

I got a PC for gen 2 , 3 , 4 that you could try if we got together. I will be seeing if I like the fatty I got recently when I get off this stinkin 250 and back on the 500.

94, so analog, right.

No ping whatsoever.

I'll pull it and check but if I remember the pilot is a 46-48....

Thanks for the offer on the PC. Problem is the way my rear pipe mount is, the hanger won't work with the stock mount on the pipe. My rear mount is moved 90 degrees to the top of the pipe.......

adam is that 50 in a pwk or pj ?

I have 2 PCs, one new SH pipe that is used for several generations with the carbon fibre guard and a steely one. The steely one is cracked quite a bit near the ignition where they always do. I'd give you that one for a good deal on the MX 51 tire if we can get together to ride. I've had pipes welded and got lots more use out of them, even with vibbbyyyy cranks.

R U running a PJ or PWK over there in VT? did U try turning your airscrew in to about 1/2 ~ 3/4 out? Did it start fine before the 250 ignition?

Sean, It's a PJ.... I'm going to fool with it later today....

Sorry, the tire's gone. Drop me a PM with a price on that cracked PC if you want.

Is your track ride-able these days? I'm all clay at my place and last Sat. turned it in Teflon with butter on it so riding ain't happening.

U R running pretty lean on the pilot for a PJ with a CR250 ignition. Is your plug dry when starting cold?

I'll send some pics.

I bow to you who are so wise in the ways of science.....

Pilots gotta be lean as once I get it running, it'll run the same with the choke in or out and adjusting the air screw changes nuttin foir all intense purposes.

On the up side, I got a super workout today kicking it a hundred times.

who needs to go to the gym when you could just ahve a poorly tuned cr500   if the airscrew isn't doing shit, the pilot is way too lean. the leanest pilot I've ever run on a PJ was a 55. My gen-1 w/ a pwk and 250ign ran a 58 pilot, I believe

Just so happens the ONLY other pilot jet I have is a 58....... I'm thinking it has a 48 in it.

Upadate:

My bad, 56 in it. Put in the 58 [170 main] and it's much better.....not perfect but at least the choke does something now!

Crap, my old eyes are soooooo fecking bad I had to use two pair of Wally World reading glasses and polish the jets to read em!

Am I missing something, keihen carbs don't run 56 pilots, either 55 or 58, intervals of 2 then 3 then 2 then 3, so 50, 52, 55, 58, 60. I got some extra stuff in the 50 range, all my stuff is running in the 40 range w/ pwk's. duh, I'l be in the 50 range soon, getting cold out quick.

Do yourself a favor and play with that stator get it where U like it and then jet if with a clean filter, freshly packed silencer, good gas and plug if you want consistent results if there is such a thing on pump gas. Make sure your not leaking at the exhaust manifold too.

If you really wanna do yourself a favor throw the PJ on the lawnmower and get a pwk on ebay.

question about timing

Post by high velocity »

I got a 96 cr250 ign, my question is about the timing plate on the bottom of the stator. There is a 1 and 3 on the plate that the bottom bolt goes thru. If you flip the plate you can change the timing. Where are you guys running your timing? 1 or 3?

the same way as it was on the 250.
there should be bolt wear markings to help you out.

For digital 2000/2001, yes: CDI, Stator Assy./Flywheel and coil.

Same applies for 93-96 CR250

Ok really thinking about picking up a 250 set up over the winter... See lots of talk about the 93-96 and 2000-01 units.... What about the 97-99 units, may have a line on a complete 99 set up.

How will it work compared to the other years?
Do I have to modify the back plate?
Can I keep my 500 coil? ( Just recently bought a new one )
