38mm PWK jetting Help
38mm PWK jetting Help
Hi all,
I am swapping the old PJ from my 1996 CR500 for a slightly more modern PWK 38mm quadvent airstriker and would just like a little advice on the jetting please
The PWK at the moment is set up with,
165RD main
42 pilot
N85C needle
#7 slide
Another long jet with the Keihin star and 85 on it(not sure what this is called sorry)
I was thinking of changing jetting to,
170 main
45 pilot
CGL or CGK needle
#7 slide
The bike is standard at the moment but will be upgrading to a full FMF system soon hopefully
Elevation 0-500 feet
93 octane fuel mixed at 32-1 with maxxima 927
1996 CR500
Thanks in advance
Tooney

Thats a good place to start. Don't need to worry about the slide #. I've never seen anyone have an issue with that.tooney wrote:Hi all,

I run:
170 MJ
1469 Needle
35 PJ
#6 Slide.
Zip Ty air screw with a small tab stuck in the screw drive slot, Stainless Idle screw with butterfly nut head - these allow me to know by feel where they are set. I adjust these more than any other part of the carb.
Std Pipe, Long Mufflers, My own porting. (this consists of transfer & inlet mods , nothing major - CREs are real Friday afternoon bikes - I had a marble sized chunk of alloy in the LH inlet transfer boost port!) I also run a 6.6mm reed block spacer - not for more crank case volume, but because I feel the reed block shrouds both the transfer boost ports & the barrel upper inlet boost port.
With the richer slide, I could go to an even leaner pilot probably, the bike starts & idles perfectly, with perfect response off idle - great for all the tight stuff I ride on. Iggys right though, with a #7 slide & bigger PJ they work well. With 13 series needle it pings under load from mid up, as it does with leaner than 1469 needles. I'm tempted to try one of the SLP inlet devices, if only because @$49.00, it's a more realistic price than all of the other types out there.
