freaking noise

Post by yota »

my engine makes a loud (and getting louder) noise while running and riding. It is just like the sound you get if you pull out the kickstarter while the engine is running. bike is a gen 3 chassis and the kicker touches the frame. I took the kicker off last night expecting the splined shaft to snap back but it didn't so I don't think thats the noise. I did remove the clutch to check it out a couple of months ago while I was waiting for my frame but I have done plenty of clutches and don't think I could have screwed that up putting it back. I am going to take the side case cover off saturday to take a look and clock the kick shaft over so the kicker isn't touching the frame but thought I would post up and see if any of you guys have an idea what it might be. damn loud noise last sunday.

CR500's arent sewing machines.... some are quite loud.

If it shifts fine, and the vibes are low... and you cant find the source of the noise.... dont get too shook up over it.

I disagree. An unpleasant noise such as this, getting louder over time, is a problem that's worsening and should not be ignored. This isn't a KX500, CR500s in good running order make damn little noise...

Not to curse you but I hope you'r CR500 motor you used for you'r conversion is not a POS like my motor ended up beening.

New cases new trany, new shifter forks, new shifter drum, new bearings, new crank, and topend, New clucth new reed valve at least I have a new motor out of the deal and spending a lot more on the motor than I was planning to.

I knew it needed a topend and a crank rebuild going in not the rest of the motor was trashed but it all good now.

If something is wrong its best to find it and fix it, before it destroys something else in the process of stuffing up.
