Drilling out my 85
Hey, what size bit should I use to drill out my 85 motor so I can stick a bushing in there... should I use one from the 125? Its going in a 04 crf450 frame.

You cant buy just the bushing, it comes already pressed in the case half.
I took my 87 style bushing and the swingarm bolt to a machine shop to have a set made.

Yamaha? I guess that's ok if your buying a Piano.
AJ at SH might be able to help you with loose bushings but only AJ forget asking anyone else there! I know he's helped other hoons in the past he's a good dude and if he's got them he'll hook you up.
The Dealer doesn't sell the bushings as far as I know you would have to buy the cases.
Do you have access to a machine shop and a good machinist? If you do "bore" your bushings you won't be able to "drill" them. Even if you got bushings from AJ you would still need to "bore" the cases.
If all else fails I know a Machinist that knows a thing or two about a thing or two

That drawing you posted doesn't apply to a 450 coversionnmdesertrider wrote:Hey, what size bit should I use to drill out my 85 motor so I can stick a bushing in there... should I use one from the 125? Its going in a 04 crf450 frame.

You won't need any of this stuff but it would be item 12 in the first drawing you posted!nmdesertrider wrote:Okay bear with me now, I'm not the sharpest nail in the box... are you talking about part #25 in the pic? It's really thin, I don't see how you can bore it out but I trust you guys.

No such thing as a stupid question!
Just stupid mistakes.....
But you still need to bore the case bushings or find new bushings and bore the cases. The swing arm bolt from your 450 is 2mm bigger than the bushings in your 85 CR500 cases if I remember correctly.

Yeah the 85 has 15mm bushings and the newer stuff has 17mm talk to AJ at Service Honda he hooked me up with a set of the newer style bushings. I don't know if he's got any more laying around but he would be the one to ask because like others have said you can't get them as a separate part. Here's a shot showing the difference

ya, I remember paying like $35 for mine, I bought it when I was converting my friends old 350z to a manual trans and had to drill the hole in the crank for the pilot bushing... that was a brutal project that we had to finish by the end of the day

I know this one has been beat to death fellas but I've got a couple questions on it. I have a guy who wants to buy my 92 steelie chassis. He's got an 88 right now he wants to put his motor in the 92. I am just wondering what it's going to cost him (ballpark) and how much work to get the bushings done. Has he got to split his cases to get the bushings out? What's the easiest way to get this done all of you who have been through this.
