The TRX stock stroke crank with the artic cat rod balanced for the 95 mm rod done at Crank Works was going to be around $800.00 due to the work involved. Alot of the Saber motors run a destroked crank (destroked to 70 mm) and to get this crank done was going to be a grand. This Artic Cat rod uses a 24 mm wrist pin (I believe) But they are trying to run these up (and are) to 9500-10,000 rpms. That's what they are using ultra long rods (rod/stroke ratio) and heavy duty parts.
For my Puma 85 mm bore, it uses a 18 mm wrist pin, and I will use a YZ 490 rod (heavier than the stock TRX rod) and for my 8500-9000 rpm range will live a nice long life.
They did do some of the Sabers with CR 500 rods and 20 mm wrist pin pistons but I don't know how long any of those motors lived spining the RPM's they are trying.
That's something I don't know anyone looked at putting this Caracal cylinder on top of a 79 mm stroke CR 500 crank when making the power they are in the upper rpms like they do. Faster piston speeds with a larger stroke does bad things to pistons and rods fairly quickly. I have had first hand experience with this. It ain't pretty.
no promises but alittle hope for a new cr500 cylinder
While the idea is cool- I'm not going to hold my breath.
The hillclimb community alone would fund this project.
From my experience... 99.9% of all self proclaimed badasses on dirtbikes are in the bottom 20% of what's really out there racing.
Nitrous, alcohol, nitro, all of the above.... You need TALENT to make it happen. Too bad politics has had such an impact on what's out there

nate can make a one off saber/caracal for cr500 bottom end right now. only problem is, it will be pricey due to the amount of work involved to make it fit. he told me thats the reason hes going to propose a "re-worked" saber/caracal cylinder to calvin. they wont be designing a whole "new" cylinder from scratch, but rather just modifying a saber/caracal mold so it enables it to directly bolt on to a cr500 bottom end. on a small scale production, this new cylinder would be much more affordable than a one off, and easy to install for the average guy. in a sense, its all in calvins hands right now. honestly i think we should put nates shop on the approved vendors list for atleast putting out the effort to make advancements and keep the cr500 alive ...alot of other shops out there could care less if the big honda withered away and died

Yaa, I talked to Nate for a while and I heard all kinds of kids crying in the background so that means they are being abused and not being treated correctly and showered with enough toys.
We need to send Nate our money for these new cylinders so he can buy his kids some Cr 500's so the sheriff will not pick him up for child abuse.
