different generation AF's
different generation AF's
Can anyone give a definitive list of what bikes are what generation ? I am doing a '08 CRF450X conversion, and don't know for sure whether it's a Gen 3 or Gen 4. . . . . . I feel so ignorant !

CRF450 gen 4, and add 1998-1999 CR125 gen 1.
All the rest looks good.

98-99 125 = Gen1 -- I think.
00-01 125/250 = Gen2
02-07 125?/250 = Gen3
I forget how the 4T stuff goes...
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
Isn't an 04 crf250x a gen4? The four stroke stuff I didn't follow that much when new, so I've just picked it up as I went.
I kinda deliberately left off the 98-99 125 from gen1 just as I figured it to be unlikely too many people would want to do that kind of work to swap a 500 into a gen1 125 chassis.

Yes it is. Honda switched to the gen 4 frame for the CRF 250RIsn't an 04 crf250x a gen4?
and X a year before doing the same for the 450F.
Good point, I was just throwing it out to answer the "what bikes areI kinda deliberately left off the 98-99 125 from gen1 just as I figured it to be unlikely too many people would want to do that kind of work to swap a 500 into a gen1 125 chassis.
what generation" question.

The Gen 1's have no "Y"... the uptubes go all the way to the steering stem.
The Gen 2's suck... who cares.
The Gen 3's have the "Clamshell" type Y
The Gen 4's have the investment cast Y
The Gen 5's have the hex lower cradle tubes

the gen 1 and 2 have a straight across weld on the frame spars, the frame spars also look like an aluminum 2X4
gen 3 spars are sexy, and the weld has a corner in it
the welds are closer to the footpeg on gen 1,2,3, the gen 4 and 5 the welds are above the airboot

the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

Yeah bob why are you so anti gen 2 250 im in the process of putting one together and even though i agree that the gen 3 and up stuff look better and probably preform better but i think that after its all together it will be a solid bike and a huge jump forward from my 91 steely and to say they suck in my opinion is not even close to the truth. I do have crf450 forks, suspension set up for my weight and riding style and im doing the gen 3 plastic swap so i think it will be a step up from the standard gen 2. 2stroke why did you have to say that your right about the frame looking like a 2x4.
Damnit!!!!!!

Gen 5 is the best looking in my opinion.
I like your bike alot Brit I think the desert tank makes the bike look alot better because it fills in that giant gap in the radiator shroud that makes them look kinda flimsy thats my big complaint with the gen 5. Liking those black rims too
