after revamping an 87 500 for my best friend we realized it would need a new topend bafore this next season,we have everything set (piston,v-force reeds,39 carb) and given his past with drag cars and such, he is good with a drimel,so a little porting is on the way.
he brought up an issue.the 85 has 7.4 to1 comp, the 86-7.0 and from 87 on the comp is 6.8 to1.my reserch showes the head is the same as well the head gasket is the same part 3 from 87 to01.
the base gasket was a differtent # for 85,86 and 87 but have all been superseeded to the current mac part#.
i have 3 base gaskets,oem,atheena and k&s,the atheena measures .200,the oem measures .210 and the k&s measures .225.
will the atheena give more compression, butt change the port timming to adversly affect the band. he is a dezzert rat like me and anything butt wfo will not due.

you must have your decimal point wrong. the difference between the thinnest (athena) and thickest (k&s) is .0025 ? thats almost nothing and really wont change anything. now adding a whole extra .020 gasket does add 2* on the port duration. but i dont recomend stacking gaskets if it can be avoided. install 1 oem gasket and work from that point
