EZ Float Level Check

To check the float level, remove the float bowl drain hose, and replace it with some clear tubing.

Hook the tubing upwards, and zip tie it to something.

Open the bowl drain screw, and the fuel will fill the hose and show the actual level thats inside the carb.

Super EZ check, if you think the float level is off.....

so is the 16mm setting based on the carb being level or plumb in this case? How do ya tell when it's right?

ya, that was what the manuals showed for how to do it on old carbed sportbikes. when you have 4 carbs all linked together, you don't really want to tear everything apart to just check the float level. some carbs don't have the screw though. I don't think the stock PJ does, but the bought new PWKs do, I think.

if you have sand in the bowl then its like having a smaller bowl, stil the same float level

My PWK (brand new) doesnt have a drain screw (I friggin HATE this) nor does my old PWK on my 500 (Kawi stocker)...

One flaw to this theory is float height is distance from bottom of float to carb base. So how "deep" does the float sit in gas during use? I would think you would have to have a known proper float height first and then do this trick and see what the "level" shows based on the fuel line. Then you would have something to go by...

Float level is measured with the carb in your hand and has nothing to do with the mounting position. On my CR250 the carb is at a ridiculous angle far from level or plumb and the float level is the same as anyone elses.

No Doubt. I guess this method requires doing it with the carb off the bike and plumb. But assuming the level was off you would know what is right doing it externally.

never seen any pwk or pj without a drain plug. got 4 in the garage and used several more over the years, all with drain plug. weird

not the 17mm drain bolt, but a small drain screw that drains out a tube. the sport bikes and small 50s have them.
