My real question is about the apparent spider cracks in the next 2 pics around I am guessing crankcase ventilation holes? Ideas and thoughts?


I think those holes are there to direct any gathering oil down to the main bearings.

OR maybe they direct some premix mist up to the piston pin bearing ...

Yep Ralph may have stymied the sales of the Vair a little but I think what really killed it was that by the mid 60's there were plenty of other chevys to pick from (Camaro, Nova, Chevelle, Vette, Impala) and they had V8's.
Also high test gas was plentiful and cheap.
