Thanks again for your input cryzsurfer. I know that "hit by the garbage truck feel". I have another question for you. I got a small bottle of straight helium from the welding supplier a few weeks back but had very poor results welding aluminum with it on DCEN. I'm wondering if they gave me balloon ...

Hey Mike,
I am using an older sine wave transformer TIG to weld my aluminum frame. I'd like to get a pre-mixed bottle of argon/helium, but I'm unsure about the best ratio to use for increased penetraction on the downtube. Would you say 75%argon/25%helium would work well, or would a 50%/50% mix be ...

Ideally, you want to cut and machine on a harder (say T4 or T6 for the alloy 6061) temper of aluminum so that it doesn't "gum up" your cutting/machining tools. Bending should be performed after an annealing heat treatment (softening). Heat treatment back to T6 should be performed after welding on a ...

Square Tube Bending Die
I am in the process of making the engine cradle for a CR125/500 conversion. Here are some pics of my homemade square tubing bender die that I made from 1/4" steel plate and a cheapo HF pipe bender. The tubing is 1" square 0.125" wall 6061-T6 aluminum. The bend shown was just a test in the T6 tube to ...

Hello from New York
I've been lurking on this board for a while and would like to formally introduce myself. I've been riding Honda dirt bikes for about 17 years now and have finally started my aluminum frame conversion. I'll be sharing photos in the AF section. Many thanks to the members on this forum for sharing ...
