Bob's idea, is a sound one. I just bought a snowmobile with a bad reputation for sucking belt dust, and fibers into the engine via, a crappy air box design. Many owners, my self included, have gutted the baffles out of the air box, and put the uni filters in. They work really well, as they are very ...

Yeah, I tried stretching the old spring out, same thing. Sad part is, its a fairly simple mechanism, and I am going by a shop manual, so im sure it assembled right. Maybe im not letting the kicker return high enough, cuz it never slips on the first stab.

Ill post some up tomorrow, I need to give it a bit of a douche, Its cosmetically challenged at the moment.
Kick starter still slips every once in awhile. Not sure why, the gear is in minty shape, and I replaced all the springs. Have to get it fixed though, I would rather have a chainsaw stuffed up ...

Well, finally got the bike running, and took it for a test ride. The thing would climb trees if the bark would stay on. I am impressed to say the least. Big thanks to everyone on this site for all info and good laughs. Just need to go over everything, and double check everything for tightness, then ...

Well, a bit of a progress report. Just got back from a 2 month hitch in Indonesia, waiting on pressure plate for clutch. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow, and with any luck I will have it running tomorrow night.

Looks good Nodge. Did the road bans get you yet? I got my frame welded in Oxbow. the guy did it with a mig and spool gun, I'm not really impressed with his work. After he was done he tells me that Red Hawk in Oxbow, and Spearings both have good tig welders, and there is still Marks in Carlyle.

Being able to change your own tires is kinda handy for some people. My local shop charged me 80 bucks to change two tires, and took 3 days to do it. Next alternative is to drive 60 miles to get it done. Servicing your own equipment(wife included), is appealing to a lot of Hoons also.

Man you guys are fast. There are two springs Danny, which one are u talking about the big one, or the little guy? The big one looks like the by product of a coke/whiskey exchange of bodily fluids, but I thought it was just me.

Kickstarter issues

So I got my 86 top end together, with the 2 dowels on the left side(not zero, not four), 2 holes drilled in the piston, and a bit of afro engineering on the exhaust bridge, and a new pwk 39mm carb installed.

So being the goof that I am, I decided to kick the thing over, and just check if it would ...

Cylinder dowels

Sorry for all the newb questions guys. I was looking at the microfiche for my 86 500 motor, and it looks like there are only as 2 dowels on the left side of the engine. Can anyone confirm that there is indeed only 2 , cause it looks like it should be 4 dowels, one for each stud. Hopefully my shop ...

Thanks for the tip Bob. I figured out that its a second over Wiseco piston, Can't really say for sure if it has been relieved. I will wait until its dark out and take a gander at it. Anyone know off hand what the ring end gap should be? I might as well do this right. If the relief hasn't been done ...

Well, a bit of a progress report, Mounts are in, as is the engine, unfortunately , the base gasket got ripped in shipping so I am waiting on that. The pipe the guy sent isn't even for a 500, so I am waiting on that too. The engine I bought is a full rebuild and has been ported, it came with the top ...
