If I could have found a KTM roller, that's what my 87' engine would be sitting in.

That's happened to me before and wouldn't you know it, the same part was posted a couple of weeks later. He just wasn't getting what he wanted for it and Ebay won't do squat about it.

I ran a Namura piston in my 01' CR125. No issues, but then everything was measured before it went in.

I'd chance to say you have other issues if that 500 was sucking tit to a 450. My 87' with a cracked piston and stop sign shaped cylinder would outpull a 450 anywhere on the track. That's also a real life experience.

As I understand it, more oil constricts the jet?
Why? Unless you break your bike in at around 3/4 to wide open throttle the main jet never comes into play.

that requires a new case, its magnesium and the waterpump will be rotten, 140$ i think, also the rear bushing is smaller than 89 and would need to be machined, outlet on the cylinder is different and its a longer reed housing which can contact some of the 89+ style pipes I think around $140 is corr...

I consider it the best Honda engine made. There's only two kinds of 87' CR500 water pump covers. Those that are rotted out and those that will rot out. Buy the late model cover and you'll be done with it. Fenders might still be available but I don't think any other plastic is available, in Flash Red...

Re: The search for an engine... Opinions please

After looking at way too many beat or just unknown engines, I have decided that I am just going to look for a complete CR500 to buy for my donor. Zach cool. thats what i been saying since day one. foolish to buy a motor that cant be started, riden, shifted... from a unknown source. 9 out 10 times a...

I own two CR500's, the 96 which I converted and a 94 steelie, and the stock stays look nothing like the ones Bob pictured. Honda didn't zig-zag either of mine for a reason. In fact, they didn't zig-zag them at all. Both of mine came with perfectly straight, flat roughly 2-3 inch triangles with litt...

Did you place the engine in the oven and bake it for a while? Red engine certainly is different. Hasn't been around since what late 70's/early 80's? Curious - what kind of truck do you have the Y leaning up against? Lights look like a Datsun to me. No oven, just primed, painted and set to th...

Neither really. I picked a shade of red I liked and went with it. The color you see in the pics isn't really what you see when in person. I'm not skilled enough with a camera to know how to fix it.

Honda didn't zig-zag it on my 87' CR500 (for a reason) which is why I asked. Like I said in the previous post, I don't know how the headstay is shaped on a later CR500.

Has anyone relocated the headstay mount on the Gen 4 CRF250 frame more to the center so it'll line up straight like the stock (87') CR500 headstay? I have no idea how the later CR500 headstays are shaped. I'm guessing it might make contact with the tank?? http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/...

I ordered that same "brand" OS rotor for my build (with the 98' RM250 front end) and had the same problem. I sent it back and got the EBC OS rotor instead.
