Thanks for that info, Nodge. I'll try to offload the '86 fmf pipe and source a newer replacement. The info about the newer boot is also good as that one seems to be more readily available.

Also, anyone know where I can find a new or good condition intake boot? Mine is cracked up pretty good.

Small update. Dropped off the frame and engine with my gramps. He is going to bore out the case and install the bushing from the CR250 for the rear mount and see how they might either reuse the existing front mounts or make new ones. Some progress.

Hey all, the intake boot on my '86 motor is cracked up pretty good and I'd like to acquire a replacement before the swap. I haven't had any success locating a new OEM part online so it looks like I'll have to settle for what I can find used.

Awesome, sounds like fun times! Reason I was asking about the suspension was I'm getting ready to finish up my Gen 1 soon and ride mostly fast desert trails and sand dunes and was looking for any tips to help improve the suspension and handling.

I think the gen 1 is the easiest conversion from what I've researched and the one I'm pursuing (mainly due to budget and availability). I'm an intermediate rider and have ridden many bikes and while one is nicer and might ride better than the rest, the bike is never the limiting factor for me ...

Welcome! And, in reading your other post about your first time on the 86 500 - it will have no issue beating the pants off the 450....once it hooks up. Wait till you try it in the sand. ;)

That's a great point. I will most definitely have to adjust my riding style to this motor's powerband. It's a hell of a lot of fun getting squirrly through every gear at the crack of the wrist but when it's go time I gotta get that power down!
