I don't think the earlier units will work, but I could be wrong. I honestly have a hard time telling any difference with the 99 250 set up compared to my stock 500 set up ignition wise; maybe revs a little higher. The lighter flywheel is what I notice the most, much easier to charge into a corner then with the fat 500 flywheel. Hard to believe I had FWW at first on mine

What did the cdi do with the stock flywheel? I have a 96 ignition on one of our bikes. I am looking for another and did not know how many years back I could go. I like the way the bike turns with the lighter flywheel.
