What a rush !!!

Post by TYSTYX »

Took my 06 CBR 1000 for run tonight.......I was about 75 miles outside the city, it was dark and the only vehicles in sight on I-10 were 18 wheelers.....the fastest I've ever ridden is 147 mph, but tonight I took her to 165 mph into a headwind ......she still has about another 20 mph left in her, but I don't think I'll ever push it to top speed.....165 is insane on a bike !! I wear fully armored, leather track gear every time I ride....not that it will save me at those speeds, but I do wear it.

I have had a bird hit me in the chest at 80, it hurt pretty bad.
Not sure what it would do to you at 165.

I tapped out my modded RC51 on the I-80 in northern cali coming down out of Donner. it was about 2 am and all 5 lanes were clear. I saw 178 on the speedo, but I know it was a bit optimistic. hitting the rev limiter in 6th is a wierd feeling, complete tunnel vision. you know your cookin when the lines on the road all run together.

At those speeds the bike was actually quite stable, I was not worried about the machine, however you are covering about a football field a second, which doesnt leave you time to react. I still enjoyed it!

That's one of the most dangerous things about riding at night...what might be in the road. At that speed, maybe it would be better not to see debris in the road, because manuevering to avoid it would:

a) take too long.
b) probably send you off the road anyways.
c) cause you to shit your pants, either from fright or the assumtion of ambient temperature immediately therafter....

I got a friends (?) RZ350 up to 115 and the front end started to wobble, then as I decelerated the damn thing really wobbled.
Also, years ago I brought my Toyota MR2 to 135 on a mountain downhill straight I-77.
Normal fluctuations in the road surface became quite evident at that speed because the car came off the ground after going though a small dip in the road.
I can't imagine what a bug hit would feel like at 150+

Fastest I have been on a bike was 185 on my 95' YZF750R that was a race bike and got plated for the street. If you live in the Orange County area and know where the Naval Weapons Station is in Seal Beach then you know where I did it at. :P I sold it a month after that. It was way to easy to go way to fast on that thing. :P
