New Owner in BC

Post by bcboy4ca »

Hello from British Columbia. I just picked up a 1986 CR500 and so far it has only cost me some time and $75 out of pocket  . Story goes like this...

Guy owes my buddy money, he doesn't have the money but does have a 1986 CR500.

My buddy takes bike in leiu of cash. My buddy has really bad arthritis and couldn't ride the bike if he wanted to.

My buddy needs some help with landscaping his yard and I want a bike, win win.

The bike is tore apart in my garage right now.

The forks need to be rebuilt (the parts came with the bike).
New levers & grips (came with bike)
The swingarm needs to be rebuilt ($75 for the pivot works kit).
Seat needs recovering
Plastics need to be cleaned up.
Frame needs touch up paint.

Basically there has been a lack of maintenence over the years so I am going through it to make sure it is safe. I look forward to learning all I can on here.

Here are some pics and pardon the messy garage, we just bought the house and I am still in the process of getting everything organized.

Make sure you pull the reed cage out, and check the piston for cracks.

Welcome and you can't beat that deal! Could always get creative too and throw a set of inverted forks on for the 86 works look!

Welcome aboard, and like lewisclan has pointed out you are a bit short for the bike.

Welcome!
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
