rear rim swap

Post by kelroy_leon »

does anyone know if the newer 89'-01' rear hoop can be laced to my 87' hub ? i checked with excel and they no longer have a # for the 86' or 87' rear hoop. i wonder if im lucky enough that the 90' yz hoop that they offer could work ? the fronts are the same, 86'-87' cr and the 90' yz. any info is appreciated.

32(89+) vs 36 spoke, leaves you SOL, but you can use a newer hub/wheel on the '87 if that helps

its for my 86' with rear disc project. i have to see if my 91' 125 hub is the same as a 91' and up 500 hub. if then ill just run the four bolt rotor. i like the 87' hub with the 6 bolt holes better. just from works and factory pics, trying to make it as close as possible. thanks for the info

I have looked, counted, measured and it seems that my 90' yz 250 hoop is the same dimensions as my 86' and 87' hoops. Why the yz is still 36 and the honda went to 32, I'm not sure. I have both wheels that will need to be redone in the future, I'm going to mock it up and see what happens ? If this does work I will be stoked. Excel has hoops in black, silver, gold and blue. At least that's the colors I know of.

Honda is the only bike company that uses the 32 spoke rear rim but the front is still a 36 spoke just like everyone else.

Try and work that out. :?
