TRX410 Stroker in a 03CR250 Frame?
I just siezed the 250. I have a chance to buy this stroker engine out of a TRX250R for cheap. I figured that it would be a worthy swap into the CR chasis. Would also have a lighting coil. I guess I am asking if anyone has tried the swap into a two wheeler? Can the forward kicker be converted to rear kick with CR250 parts? Is the engine mounts the same as a CR motor? ...........................Just in one of those stoked thinking moods.............Probably won't sleep much tonite thinking about this swap. Will the "Y" have to be moved?........HHHMMMM

we've actually talked about this before... would be super cool, 6 speed, lighting coil, etc. but if I remember correctly, the motor is all big at the front on the quad, but the atc 250r motor would be a better fit. either way, will not just bolt in.

250R's are not selling worth a crap right now, so maybe finding a deal on a motor might be easy. Remember they kick forward!!! I would have to say the mounts look close to a CR250 motor, but wht mot find a 500 to stick in there?

I have a 88 TRX250R, I see no reason why you can not make it fit???? Let me know I will take some pics to help with the planning... I have thought about sticking a 500 in the quad and many a people have done it with good results.100hp honda wrote:wont work. check ebay for pictures and youll see why.

you make it sound easy as pie like raise the Y a inch and re-weld the mounts

since you have one sitting in your garage youll have a birds eye view. heres what i see from pics..... everything appears wrong from the front to the back.Let me know I will take some pics to help with the planning...
1- swingarm mounting location in relation to the front sprocket looks fuked
2- gear shift shaft location and position looks fuked
3- kick start area looks fuked
4- kickstart goes backward and i see no way to change that
4- alot of extra shit in the front of the motor at counterbalancer
5- did i miss anything ? i would bet million dollars theres more issues than what i mentioned

I have thought about sticking a 500 in the quad and many a people have done it with good results.
many people ? i havent heard one success story yet. infact if you ask about 500/qaud conversion on any site youll hear quit a few horror stories.

WOW.... Some one having a bad day?
A conversion is just that.... a conversion, it takes mods to make it work. Seem to remember having to raise my Y to fit my 500 in my frame, having close frame/shifter tolerances, pipe and air box fit issues and so on!
The biggest issue on either subject is that the R does not bolt thru the swing arm, and yes that does lead to the vibe issues putting the 500 in the R frame and mount breakage has been the biggest complaint.

im fine man. sorry if it came across the wrong way. i think zettnorcal wanted info about how easy/practical it would be to do that conversion. in my opinion its a bad idea to even try. it wouldnt be easy or practical. if he has cash burning hole in his pocket i would buy $1000 cr5, pull the motor, put the new 580cc cylinder on it then install it in his gen2 chassis.... now that would be a badass machine and fairly easy conversion. could a guy shoe horn that 250r in there and make it work ??????.... i like to believe anything is possible.eyesky2002 wrote:WOW.... Everything sounds good in theory, the problems start when you try to put them into practice.
Not saying it can't be done, but you might need a lot of TIME, MONEY and PATIENCE.
If you have all 3 why not have a go.
