after market 500 coil
I bought a cr 500 monster coil off ebay for my cr500 project off ebay before I learned about the trick set up using a 93 cr250 cdi/ stator/fly wheel. Will that coil work with the 93 or is the resistance wrong and I end up smoking some thing ?

More timing? less timing? do you mean advanced or retarded ignition? not following you bob.AlisoBob wrote:No one has actually mapped the timing curve.. but it seems to have more timing down low for an instant hit, and less timing up top for more revs....23champ wrote:Whats the advantage to running a CR250 ignition
Its prolly the same timing used in '86....

first off, the all hondas after '87 have the same resistance coil. so if you have a coil that works on a 500 ignition, it will work with a 250 ignition. I have one of those AMR monster coils on the gen-3, its a cheapo looking made in china peice, but does seem to dish out a hot spark even for really slow kicks. I used mine to replace a failed oem coil and had the AMR sitting in a box.
the 250 ignition does have a different curve, but the biggest advantage is that it doesn't have the detuned hole at low rpms that the 500 cdi does. honda tuned the 500s essentially to bog at low rpms to keep riders from looping out if they accidentally jerk the throttle. there was no need for this on a 250. Honda had to tame the 500 while at the same time squeezing every drop out of the 250. the 250 timing curve is wicked and made to maximize power.
if you replace your 500 "detuned" ignition with the hotrod cr250 ignition you will have a beast of a bike that doesn't like to keep the front wheel on the ground, but always tries to put the rider on the ground instead ask MFDB about my first ride on the 250 cdi at armagosa... my first launch I ripped the rear fender off and smashed the silencer in!
I warn everyone who does a 250ign to use some caution, its great for an open desert bike, a dunes bike, a drag bike or a SM bike. if you ride ST dont to it!

shut up, you know exactly what he means... more = advance, less = retardsouth central hoon wrote:More timing? less timing? do you mean advanced or retarded ignition? not following you bob.AlisoBob wrote:No one has actually mapped the timing curve.. but it seems to have more timing down low for an instant hit, and less timing up top for more revs....23champ wrote:Whats the advantage to running a CR250 ignition

I always get confused with the advance/retard verbage, I know exactly what im doing when im adjusting it but wording its different lol
And as for aftermarket coils, if the stocker can spark a 500 at WOT with a 50 wet shot of nitrous without ANY spark blowout its fine and doesnt need "upgrading"
