CR250 Ignition question...
CR250 Ignition question...
I have a '97 CR250 setup that I haven't been able to get working. I got to looking today at the wires, etc and of the 6 wires coming out of the stator, 4 of them match color/pairing wise to the analog 250/500 cdi's that I have laying around.
My question is this... can I put new connectors on the '97 250 stator to plug in to an analog 250/500 cdi and have it work? I'd really like to take advantage of the smaller & lighter '97 250 flywheel coupled with the programmable msd ignition I'm wanting to pick up this winter.

the digital setups have to pump a lot of power out of the stator and convert it to D/C. I'd be willing to bet a lot more voltage comes out of that setup, I wouldn't risk burning up the stock cdi.

That was my thought too from looking at the stator. But.... I have a spare 500 box that I can burn up if it happens and not be overly troubled by it, since I'm going to replace it with a 90's 250 cdi anyways.dannygraves wrote:the digital setups have to pump a lot of power out of the stator and convert it to D/C. I might not have to worry about the extra voltage tho... I won't be using 2 of the lines coming from the stator... Homer Simpson style logic says I'll be putting less voltage into the cdi that way. We'll see if it works.

...or more? I'm thinking if you aren't using two of the lines, the voltage that would otherwise have been used for those circuits, will now be disseminated among the rest. The stator is producing the same amount of juice, and it has to go someplace...rightfastkart wrote:I might not have to worry about the extra voltage tho...
