97-01 requires machining to make the stator fit. 97-98 have an extra wire to the carb. 02-07 have extra wires also, I don't know what they are for. Maybe a power valve or TPS? 97 and newer are digital, I don't know if this makes them better or worse.

This is incorrect.robertg wrote:97-01 requires machining to make the stator fit. 97-01 have an extra wire to the carb. 02-07 have extra wires also, I don't know what they are for. Maybe a power valve or TPS? 97 and newer are digital, I don't know if this makes them better or worse.
I've owned 99,00,01 CR250 non of which had "extra" wires for carbs. The wiring is direct bolt on other than the coil hook up wire is differnt where the male/female juncture is. If you use a 250 coil it won't matter. I just changed the connector and ran the 500 coil. The machineing was easy with a drill press and a flat bottom carbide burr on my 01 stator.
I'm pretty sure digital is better, but I'm not educated enough to explain why. Honda didn't switch to it because it's worse did they.
later models had electronic powervalves and some had TPS on the carb too.
I just did an edit. I know 97 has an extra wire to the carb, and i'm pretty sure 97-98 are similar. I have an 00 ignition on my bike, so I know they just need machining, no wiring changes.

Yes and no. They're a real bitch to start for some people and that does include me. Others seem to be able to make them work just fine. If anyone wants a try and buy, that works for me.thestuz wrote:are they the ones that are a real biach to start???redrocket190 wrote:I have two new Service Honda / Electrosport digital ignitions to sell...
