Cometic

Post by eyesky2002 »

Has anyone had any issues with Cometic gasket kits being mispackaged? Just got a topend kit and it came all jacked up, it had no reed gasket and the exhaust gasket looks like it is for a 110 4 stroker?

I am getting a replacement set, but will I receive the same?

Worries me on the quality of the gasket if they cant even package it right :?

As for the stamped metal head gasket, do I put it on dry or use some copper spray?

I use cometic on my stuff and haven't had an issue... yet. You'll be fine to run the gasket dry, but you can use copper spray if it makes you feel better.

the packaging mixup is wierd, but the head gasket is identical to oem, the base gasket is far superior to any other you'll buy. I've sold 30+ cometic 500 headsets, never seen a packaging issue like that before

I have used Cometic gaskets on my last three topends and never had a problem with the gasket leaking and the base gasket is much better than oem, but they always send the wrong intake gasket. They send a 4 bolt pattern and my bike is a 5 bolt pattern (yz250)?

with a headgasket identical to oem, and a superior base gasket + reed gasket (has tacky shit on them that sticks tight, nothing else needed, and with a metal structure it cant be sucked in or blown out), the only thing i can see making it "leaky" is if theres a dimple or something from corrosion or prying things apart

the 86 jug i bough had a prying dimple on it, i admit i didnt see it until it was together and leaking to the outside, so it took it abpart, filled the hole with 1149 or whatever by threebond, made it flat and its been together for a few years now
