can a 08crf450 front end bolt on to steely frame?
hey guys, i know this is a af forum but i figured you guys would have more suspension info than the steely boys. i took my cr5 out to the track today and man that front end handles like chit. the rear was workable but i just cant get my front end working properly.i know your gonna tell me to do the whole af conversion and it is on the cards.but i want to keep it origional. ive decided to invest in some crf08 forks and maybe tripple clamps so i can have a steering dampener. do you guys think this will solve my problems? and is it a simple bolt on? any info would be a help.thanks
do it!... cos if you dont, youll spend the rest of your life thinking about it anyway!

You can have a dampener on a steely. You can even have it submounted.thestuz wrote: ive decided to invest in some crf08 forks and maybe tripple clamps so i can have a steering dampener.
You didn't describe what the bike is doing. What work if any has been done to the forks(springs, valving for you)thestuz wrote:do you guys think this will solve my problems

ive had the rear shock serviced, ive replaced all the linkage bearings and shock bearings, serviced the head stem bearings and put new bushes/seals and 5wht oil in the front. i took it out to a mx track and found the front end to have too much pre load. after doing two laps id experienced the worst ever arm pump ive ever experienced. i found the front end to be very harsh when on factory settings, and gives me near lethal tank slappers when traveling at speed over bumpy terrain when i lessen the compression th reduce the harshness.ive ridden 06yzf,08crfs and there front ends are amazing at being able to take a huge hit and soak it up. ive sourced a good set of new 08 forks and dampener for a few hundred dollars more than what it would cost to get mine valved and re sprung. haven had the chance to ride this weekend (all the tracks are closed) but ive done some adjustments to the suspension and gonna give that a go. if im not happy with it, ill try the crf front end i think. ive only just got my cr and this is the first time ive ever taken it to a mx track. i had so much fun i wanna start doin it often but have to sort out this suspension issue before i can go faster. i was hoping there were more people that tried it with more followups but the people that have tried it haven really reported on it much. i could always do the af conversion but i am happy with the rear end and the space the steely gives me. it seems to just be the front end letting this package down and im more than happy to invest some time and money to get it sorted, just think its better getting newer twin cartridge forks that trying to polish a turd with the old ones.
