cool . but i see no new technology there and its still a 4poke . husqvarna been tilting there engines in hopes of discovering something new, hasnt realy panned out for them either.

Finally putting the intake in the correct place isnt new technology?
if they put the same amount of effort into a 2stroke you would have a 10x better motor. like the evinrude E-tec or whatever its called.... ton more power, great emmisions, almost no maintenance, good fuel milage . instead they keep pissing around with 4pokes, i see no gain for anybody but the manufacturers, because now they can charge $1,000 more for their "new technology"
The airbox is in the gas tank location
The gas tank is behind the airbox and goes under the seat
The rear shock is supposed to have some kind of electronic control
The fuel injection is D.I.
And I guess yamaha is switching to red/white
a Yamaha TRI-Z has the tank under the seat too, so its not the first time yammi has done this.

well, we're the dritbike equivalent of those guys who love their old carbed SBC and wouldn't touch any of that newer expensive crap! The cr500 is ancient technology, but it runs good, runs hard and runs reliably. Start talking about how great thumpers are on a 500 board and watch the torches and pitchforks come out!

I've always wondered why everyone has stuck with the same format for years and years. like in the early days, with air cooled 2 strokes, you needed to get fresh air to the jug and head and you needed room for an expansion chamber. neither apply anymore, so why have the heaviest parts at the front of the bike, and why have exhaust out the front and intake from the rear. Now it should be able to get a better cooler air charge, the FI and TB is easier to get to. airfilter easier to access. no more burned legs on a pipe that wraps around the bike. the list goes on, no having to remove the exhaust to take side covers off, etc. etc.
so far the only downside I see is because of the tank location, high capacity tanks probably wont happen. but a FI 450 won't suck down fuel like a 500 tahts running too rich. Hell, I go riding w/ justin in my gen-1 w/ my 3.1gal tank, and I go through 2 tanks in the time he goes through 1 and his is under 2 gal.

i dont understand why you guys a so gaga over this yamacrapper. because they put the intake more straight inline into the cylinder ? hasnt streetbikes and some cars been doing that for years ?
it isn't that the tech is new, but its the application. the germans used fuel injection and disc brakes in the early '50's, the american car companies called it new when they started doing it 15 years later.
its like when my dad was telling me he was working for hughes, or McDonnell Douglas (who ever it was I can't remember), but that guy who invented the machanical heart was all over the news. My dad said to one of the other engineers "hey, how long do you think it would have taken us to design a better one if the work order came through here"
Its all about the application and marketability. Yamaha is really puting it all out on a limb if it really does come out on the market like this. I wonder how many loyal customers will hate it and buy a red or green bike...

Maico tried liquid cooling and disc brakes and I think even single rear shock in like 75 or 76, if I;m not mistaken. Lost all kinds of customers with the idea, then the jappanese did it like 4 years later and everyone was going bananas.

i know what you guys were saying. i was just giving you shit. nothing they do will make me like the 4strokes. theres been a conspiracy to abolish the 2stroke, they can stick all that new technology up their asses
