Premix Ratio

Post by CR500PHIL »

I am sure this must have been covered before I looked and cannot find it. I have a 1989 CR500 engine in the AF conversion I am building and the manual calls for 20:1. I threw some of my YZ250 40:1 pure synthentic premix in yesterday - (I have never had this engine going and it started right up and even idled and I haven't done any carb adjustments yet). What do you guys recommend as a mixing ratio? Do you think I am fine with 40:1 with pure synthetic premix or should I go with 32:1? I use PJ Goldfire pure synthetic oil - the cleanest and best I have used. I have used this for years and according to the compression in my YZ 250 it offers great protection.

I just use 1/2 a quart in a 5 gallon jug. Why make things complicated?

I run 44:1 927 and couldn't be happier.
used to run 80:1 chev per dewaynes recomendations, but found that I lost compressior pulling hills in the dunes.

CR500 - Amsoil Dominator 50:1 - this bike will be on the pipe 24/7 as it is a supermoto bike so I didn't want to push the ratio that hard on a WOT bike like I do my woods bike.

I run the 100:1 amsoil in my KTM 300, looked at the power valve and cylinder last night after 30+ hours and it looks perfect. I am a believer.

Is 32:1 too much?

Seems to be working nice for me.

The hardest thing to lube is NOT the piston, its the Con Rod "Big End" bearing.

32:1 will keep this lubed.

You can tell bikes run at 80:1... the con rod thrust washers are gone.

Racing karts turn lots of RPM, under lots of loading.... some run 15:1 to keep the rod happy.
