GSS RACEPORTING

Post by sabreguy »

I finally got my engine stuff down to Glen's Friday.
I am having him go over my jug, rebuild my crank and install all new bearings in the cases.
He gave me a short tour of his shop and toys. Man this guy has alot of very cool stuff and if you need some new jugs or heads for your 500 he's got em!
Very nice fellow it was a pleasure to meet you Glen!!!!!

GSS's work

Post by sabreguy »

Here are some before and after pics of Glen's work!
Before: Bob's famous stop sign cylinder!
Image
After:No more stop sign!! Glen said the cylinder was bored .012 off center in the previous pic but not now baby!!!!

Before:

After:
Image
Before:
Image
After:Glen said there was some low spots on the back side off the head so he went ahead and surfaced the head for me!
Image
Before:
Image
After:I could have had him do some more work in this area but for a stock bike this is great!
Image
Plus he installed all my OEM bearings for me!!
I took my 16 yr old with me to pick up the stuff so Glen gave him the grand tour of his shop and he even fired up a few of his "toys" he had sitting around. One was 128 hp hillclimber! He invited my son up to Jawbone to ride some hillclimbers that he is going to be bringing up there!!

And on top of all that the man turned 70 on Sat!!!

Happy Birthday Glen!
Me too alot of knowledge is rolling around in that man's head!

Thanks

We both were wide eyed that thing sounded awesome!!!!
He has a Harley he fired up and that thing had a serious lumpty lumpty cam talk about a cool exhaust sound this thing sounded mean!!!!
He also showed us his 91 (I think) championship winning hillclimber with the steel paddles still on the rear tire!

I could spend days in that man's place!

Good stuff Rick! I like the way Glen drills the pistons. They have a bevel to them to hold more lube against the bridge.

Sounds like an amazing place and the work looks outstanding. You might want to post a phone number and address of his place for those of us out of state. A couple of my 500s are in need of some engine work.

Those holes do look huge but GSS has done hundreds of these motors and if there was an issue I think it would have shown up by now.

you wont ever have a problem with oil holes cracking in the middle of the piston. the bottom of the intake side of the skirt is really the only place that would be suceptible to a crack. but ive never yet seen a forged piston crack

The one (of many sitting around) was a Yamaha with an inline four Yammy engine (don't remember the size) that Glen said puts out 128hp at the crank.
If we get to go to Jawbone when he is testing I will see if I can get some pics.

What did the machine work, bearing install and crank inspection set you back? It looks like the exact work that I have to have done on my 500.

Take care,

JT

$105.00 for all above and another $160.00 for a Wiseco .080 piston.
