local dealer
went in to the local dealer killing time on my way home. after looking at some new bikes i walk in the back to check the used selection. i see a '05 cr250 in ok shape but you could tell a fag flatbiller previous owned it cuz it had DC stickers all over, so i asked the fat saleman how much, he says $3,999
. i laughed alittle to my self, walked around for a few more minutes and went home. with the economy in the toilet you think he would be begging eveybody that walks through the door to buy it

Not really because the dealer expects that anyone shopping there is either looking for a new bike and can afford whatever it costs, or, the person can't afford anything and will finance a bike because they can't buy one outright. Anyone that can pay cash would be a fool to buy from a dealer.

some poor dude probly traded it for new 450, dealer gave him $1,800 maybe and now they doing a 2k profit
. NADA on the '05 cr250 is $2,995 thats if its pretty darn good shape, if its hammered its worth maybe $2,200 or less. of course NADA isnt the final word but i think its the standard banks go by isnt it ?
Yes it is...or banks I've dealt with in the past. And I know that a bank won't give you more than what the vehicle is worth. Meaning they're not going to loan you $4,000 for a $3,000 bike because you owe them more than they have colateral for. My bank wouldn't have given me $8,000 to buy a Service Honda because they couldn't find it in NADA. They could either price me for a CR250, or a Steel framed 500. All I wanted the loan for was to build my credit and they could have made a couple bucks off me with interest. I told them to hell with you and paid cash for it...100hp honda wrote:of course NADA isnt the final word but i think its the standard banks go by isnt it ?
I liked the story I think Frank had of the brand new out of the crate 2001 CR500 at the dealership. And they wanted like $10,000 for it or something
'03 CR500 powered by...umm...a new motor?

why do you figure the dealer would be selling the bike for $1000 more than NADA books says its worth ? i dont see the reasoning behind how over priced they have that bike, especially with the bad economy, and on top of that i think the popularity of the cr250 may have declined quite a bit when the 4strokes emerged.

You can put whatever price you want on it, theres always someone stupid enough to pay it.
Price it high then the perceved discount is bigger when you cut down to your "real" asking price.
95% of customers will come in and say that the car is to much and they want a discount, fair enough lets deal.
5% will come in and pay whatever is on the window, so if you owned the store would you price shit high or start out low?

I tried to answer that in my first post. It's because anyone looking for a used bike at a dealer is either "A" a dumbfawk, or "B" needs financing. And since folks can't get financing from a private party, they opt for a dealers used machine in order to make easy monthly payments.100hp honda wrote: i dont see the reasoning behind how over priced they have that bike

ya that makes perfect sense. i was actually kind of dumbfounded at how much they wanted. i figured $3,500 at the most. '05 from private party would probly be $2,800 maybe little lessPorted&Polished wrote:I tried to answer that in my first post.
