MPS welds ....looks better than the SH bikes....but I'm still going with TTM for my build.

No it's not, but it goes back to what they charge to do that! For the money to have someone else weld your frame that they charge, it fuckin well better be alot better looking weld than that! If I paid the grand or what ever it is that they charge and it came back looking like that, I would be putting some foot to ass.Ported&Polished wrote:Those welds look fine. Clyde doesn't count cause nothing will Ever be perfact for him.
They look good enough to me and if your not likely to case a double or triple the true test is only time.
Desto doesn't post much here lately, lets just say his frame has been fixed a few times, but hes an animal on the track. Look for him at ADGP
What I want to know is, whats up with the rad hose from the cylinder to the rad?
5 hours on the bike is miss leading with new graphs,plastics and bars.

They look good enough to me and if your not likely to case a double or triple the true test is only time.

Those welds look fine to me, too. Certainly not worth raising a stink over. I can't say the same for a couple of the older SH bikes I've seen, though.

You mean to say that you would pay someone $1000 to weld your frame and get it back looking like that and you'd be ok with it? If you went and paid $40,000 for a new truck and it came with 3 bald tires would that be ok too? Not being an ass, but it all goes right back to another thread here, disseminating the quality of workman ship as opposed to the cost of the work done. If I paid some guy $100 and a case of beer, (which is what I did), I would expect work like that. For a grand or better, the welds better be fucking perfect. And look like who ever was doing the work actually gave a shit about what they were doing! Those would be unacceptable to me. But of course, I don't have piles of money to throw into this either, maybe if I did, I wouldn't care what the bike looks like after I paid that much to get it. I am not questioning the strength of the weld, I am questioning the quality of workmanship. My Dad is a certified welder with 35 years plus under the hood, I cannot believe the person that welded that is certified. If they are, they don't give a shit what their work looks like.

i thought from day 1 the fit and finish of mikes bikes look great. juddys home built conversion looks sweet too. some s/h bikes look decent but not great, but they seem to be sporatic on which ones are good or bad. ive havent seen any mps bikes than looks other than mediocreiggys-amsoil wrote:Clyde doesn't count cause nothing will Ever be perfact for him.

Looking at MPS's current prices, you send him a 450 frame that requires fairly major cradle modification, and $1700 later you get a frame back (and all related parts) that fits a 500 without any hassle. I'd be perfectly happy with that bike as pictured on ebay. It's not as nice as a TTM conversion, but I don't think MPS claims that either.

I built my frame for around $200 and it looks better than that. As far as R&D, thats a bill the company should pick up, not pass on to the consumer. As far as moding the craddle and all what ever, I modded my bike in the back of my truck. I can't for the life of me understand why someone would pay for work that looks like that as opposed to just doing it yourself. If you were going to spend $1700, just send it to Mike. At least that way your getting your moneys worth rather than perpetuating "business's" that send shit like that out to the consumer passing it off as good work. People in this country have really fallen victim to just accepting things rather than forcing manufacturer's to produce a good product for the price they are asking. What I'm trying to say is since the AF conversions have become popular, every joe-dick that knows how to make 2 pieces of alum. stick together and has a welder is popping up offering to convert your frame. I would be really suprised to see how many of these "builders" even ride the bikes they claim they can build. As consumers they prey upon us knowing full well that alot of people don't have the means one way or another to do it themselves, even though we really want one of those killer bikes. It's our job as consumers to search out the best deal available, not to settle for whats offered by one entity. I am not kissing six on TTM here, but for the money, if you are going to spend money to have a frame converted, looking at all the evidence on this site, why settle for the MPS bike when you can have the TTM? There are alot of other people here that have built there own bikes too, and many look a hell of alot better than the MPS, some look better than TTM's too. Some don't. IMO if I spent $1700 and got that delivered to my door, I would be more than disapointed because I would not accept a fab jobs with welds that looked like that wether they are strong or not. A welder should have more pride in their work than that.

Heres my home-made 2004 CRF250X frame conversion, Shan-Man mounts, and lower tabs...
Not quite TTM, but better than some.....
