HELP 01 cr250 conversion

Post by plick_99 »

to all you who know and do the AF conversions....I have an 01 and am missing running a REAL tire on the ass end, something like an irc m5b 140 80 18. obviously I cant fit one on the CR AF, the closest I can find is a 110 90 19.
My question is, what do all of you use to get the power to the ground?
is there a 250 18 inch rear wheel that will fit the 01cr250?
if there is I am thinking I could at least get up to a 130 tire on the ass end and get a little more bite.
Any input would be much appreciated.

I know the Maxis Desert IT goes up to 120-90-19...
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

I have never tried running 18'' rear rim, but i've got a decent line on some killer excels and i need to know if the 18'' is a much shittier ride then the stock 2.15 19? Sorry i can't help your question...i've never owned an 18'' rim. They look badass though.

I used to run one of those tyres on my 97 Husaberg 600.In the sand it was awesome for holeshots ! Although on clay surface I got smoked by an XR 400.

Where do you ride? This is what I have done with my last three AF's. I ran the 19" on motocross tracks and built up another set of wheels with an 18" for a paddle or desert tire in back and a good sand tire for the front. Some guys like the 20" up front in the dunes, but I never went that route.

When I had the Berg that was back in South Oz years ago.Now I live in West Oz so ride around the Perth hills, and also South of Perth mostly.I did actually get another one of those IRC's on my KTM 525 a couple of years back and I rate them among the best hook up sand tyre short of a paddle. There was a bit of a fad a few years back with the top MX guys here running 20" fronts but I have never used one myself and you dont see them anymore here.

i run a 140/80/18 michelin S12 soft terrain tire on my CR250 for trails. i ran it on my 450X before i converted it into a motard. hooks up pretty dang good. they make it in a 130 for a 19 inch wheel. they also make the M12 intermediate terrain tire in 130 for a 19" wheel

Like these ones hey ? Yeah the S12 is brilliant in the sand but they wear quickly on hard terrain. So I put one of those M12's on the 500,never used one before but would hope it might last longer than the S12.

I used to run the Dunlop 773 on my 01 conversion. It worked really well in the sand, but did wear fast. Oh yeah, it comes in a 120/80-19.

mainly mountains around here but whenever I get the chance I head east to the high desert.
I read about some dude using the 140 m5b on his CRAF, I was wondering how he managed it, must be a converted 450? The 250 definitly wont handle it....
I think I am going to try the m5b 110, not as much meat on the ground as I would like for the mountains but without going back to a steely I dont know how I can get that much back tire....
