Dexcool

Post by Exnav »

Any issues running it as opposed to old style anti freeze?

I know that it doesn't get along with some piston coatings.

I'm running it. when I gave my dad my '98 c2500 it had a cracked rad tank, so he bought a new rad and a crap load of dexcool. he forgot about mixing it and bought a HD rad with larger tanks and cores, so he bought like 5 gallons of dexcool. I've got a lifetime supply for the bikes now  I run like an 80/20 or 70/30 whatever it comes out to and haven't had any problems and it cools very well. the only thing is, I'd make sure ALL of the old stuff is out, even when you pull all the drain plugs, some stays in the jug.

If your getting coolant on the piston, you have bigger issues...

The only thing i would worry about with dexcool is overheatting the bike. Once dexcool gets to a certain heat point.. it turns to sludge.. Ill ask my buddy's who are GM techs if they know where that point is and if it would be an issue in a 2 wheeler.

Also with running it low on coolant like it will turn to sludge as well.. According to my gm tech buddies they say it doesnt cool any diffrent than regular antifreeze.. but thats coming from him.. I personally run the pre-mixed engine ice and have been super happy with it.

Cummins has a model with "Lifetime Lube".... i.e. no oil changes.

It diverts the some of the engine oil into the fuel rail, and burns it. You simply top off the crankcase every week or so.

Change the filter once a year, thats it.

There is a retro fit kit I know roadway runs it and has had great luck with it while cutting down on maintenance. Not a bad idea I think.

I had a vauxhall once with majorly low compression on #4, it would burn damn near a gallon of oil per tank of gas.

Dexcool is Ok stuff. They claim 100K mile intervals, but it should be dumped after 2/3 years (car/truck). I've seen some sludged up shit when it's time is expired.
There's nothing permanent about permanment antifreeze. It all goes bad....especially in a diesel.
Prestone green is about the best you can get. Jap green (Toyota?) is the ultimate...

Yeah, Ford's great fuckin ideas.
I hate servicing those m.f'ing trannies that don't have a freakin dip stick.

What is that??

I think Honda HP is the best coolant in the world. But it would cost me $17,000 to fill my Diesel!! HAHA
