Kick starter repair

Post by CRMOE500 »

My kick starter was facing retirement until I got creative. The oblong hole was carefully made round with a stone bit removing as little material as possible.I have all kinds of copper pipe,so I found a piece that fitted securely in the hole.To go back on the bike, the copper "bushing' was lightly honed out with a sanding scroll and a grove ground out for the bolt. Now I have a nice kick starter with no slop and it only cost my time.Someday I will spend the cash for a new one when money isn't prioritized, but for now I'll just keep making bushings.

...and I thought a floppy kick start was an essential part of the vintage experience :D. Seriously, nice work.

It is until the kick starter bounces off your shins a few times! :bump:
Thanx for the replies guys.I used copper instead of steel so I wouldn't wear out whats left of the kick starter.Always thinkin'.
My down tube on the exhaust I just made out of a piece of stainless tube that already had the bend. The secret is what the pipes original purpose was.If you knew you'd probably laugh and I'd never here the end of it! :D
