Cylinder Question

Post by fastkart »

I received a new cylinder and head from SH this morning. I opened it up, and the cylinder liner is coated with a yellowish orange substance... what is it?

I would guess just some sort of grease to prevent corrosion while its boxed up on a shelf. Kinda like with ne brake rotors. I'd just hit with with some carb or brake parts cleaner and install :D

Brits looked the same way from Clyde.... Brit tasted it, said it was dried "Baby Batter"...

:barf:

Seriously... leave it on until you need to use the jug. Once you take it off, rub the cylinder with premix oil.

It would be a shame to rust it , before you use it.

Then leave it on, it will protect the finish while its getting ported.

The stuff is most commonly referred to as " cosmoline"... even if it isnt.

its just a sealer they put on, otherwise the bore would rust like crazy with atmosphere moisture and people handling it. leave it on until assembly time

It is......
