Clarke tank for gen-1
so I got a 3.1 gal natual finish tank off ebay for $50 the previous owner said he only used it for like a year.
Compared to the IMS I destroyed, the fitment was CAKE! there is no reason not to get this tank for a gen-1! took my like 15 minutes to fit it where I spent hours on the ims before breaking through.
The headstay area fits fine, but it was touching the headsyat slightly so some slight adjustment was required. The IMS was crazy around the headstay and made it impossible to fit, but it totally cleared the head and plug. Its the opposite for the Clarke, I had to mash a little in to clear the plug, then one spot on the right was touching the head barely and one spot on the left was pushing on my coolant lines. Evereything was really close though, the tank actually fit right out of the box.
The IMS seemed like a better quality tank with better plastic and better bike fitment (the clarke doesn't fit the shrouds and rad very well) but it was just too much work to even try to get it to clear the head stay and the back of the head where the headstay mounts.

ya, I was pissed when I messed up that IMS tank, luckily it was a $70 ebay deal. this clarke fits a lot better and for both I still paid less than what 1 costs new.

Prolly Nylon, which is self-lubricating, and yes, notjhing sticks well to it, its similar to PTFE (Dpuont Teflon)...dannygraves wrote:already chucked it
but its a weird type of plastic that feels greasy, I don't think I could have gotten anything to stick to it.
ABS on the other hand is cake, but not sure if its solvent safe (gas)...

but THATS no fun!!!!
plus I'm keeping the stock tank as a spare, it makes me a little uncomfortable how close to the rads this tank is. I think its more than 3.1 gal and clarke quit making it because it looks different from the pics on their website. I took it for a spin yesterday on my paddle, just to make sure the tank was working of coarse (any excuse I can get to fling my desert landscaping rocks at the neighbors house )

Yeah my DRZ450 has had both IMS and Clarke. Clarke fit absolutely PERFECT!!! IMS..not so good. Clarke plastic is thinner and more flexible...though it never broke...IMS =Indestructable! (Unless you take a torch to it apparently). IMS is still on the bike. Clarke is in the rafters.
