newb oil question

Post by aloha450x »

i just got my 92 motor and was wondering how much oil does this thing hold. it will be used for street riding so i might need a little more to keep from burning the gears up. also doe sit have an oil filter? and last what oil should i use. i was running turbine oil on my crf450x in both sides with no problem and it ran cooler and didnt burn oil at all. should i stick with my full syn turbine oil/ the price is right. wink wink. and also what oil should i run in the mix and what kind. i see that they now make smokeless oil and this would be best i think due to it being ran on the road and a big cloud of smoke behind me raises a few flags.

haha flip a coin brotha on the oil. street riding may require a different kind of oil than normal dirt use because long distance and high rpm but i really dont know for sure. i use honda red bottle in the tranny and KLOTZ %100 castor in the gas. i think me and Pstoffers are the last of a dying breed using %100 castor :headbang:

Gearbox oil, and premix oil are two completly different subjects.

Running a high quality motor oil of your choice in the tranny seems the way to go. Changing it often is the key.

Try something like a Shell Rotella 15/40 diesel motor oil in the tranny.

Smoking exhaust is caused by your tuning, more than oil selection.

Lots of people like Maxima '927, Some swear by Yamalube, other like stuff like Amsoil.

Like Clyde said, flip a coin.

Todays lubes are all so good, its hard to make a poor choice.
