I have a "Sewing Circle" of Mommies I hang with on Fridays, at the kids gymnastics class....
One of them has a hubby who rides.... he wont ride with our group, and once saw my CR500 and told me he was surprized it was all "scuffed up".
This is the story of your typical O.C. 40+ year old yuppy with the new '07 CRF450R and is reliving his glory days of 20 years ago......
" Bob, We left last Monday to go camping in the Desert for Thanksgiving. We went to Dove Springs. Everything was great until Friday. Friday, Mike, all the men and all the sons went on a kids ride to Jawbone to have lunch. There were gone all day. About 5pm two of the men come back to camp with the boys. They told me Mike had a "spill" and they were going to go get him with the truck. I knew it was more than a spill. I packed a bag for him and waited at the dirt road so I could take him to the hospital. He was still in his cracked helmet and neckbrace, barely able to breath and moaning. My friends let me take their truck to get Mike to the Hospital. A 20 minute drive out of the dirt took 40 minutes because every little bump almost made him pass out from pain and shortness of breath. It took another 40 minutes to get to Ridgecrest Hospital. The ER doc came out to the truck to assess him. They cut his shirt off, put a neck brace on him and peeled him out of the truck. After 4 hours the diagnosis was a broken neck and possible broken ribs and sternum. They had to send him by ambulance to Loma Linda were they were intending to operate and put a halo on. At 12:30 he was transferred and I have to find my way back to camp.
Next morning I packed up the motorhome and all the men helped me load all the bikes in the Toy Hauler and transfer gas into my motorhome so I wouldn't have to stop at a gas station. One of the guys drove the motorhome and toyhauler to the street. I then drove our 50ft of hell on wheels 3 hours to home. I am not sure if the other drivers on the road survived. I then got in my car after leaving my kids with friends and drove to Loma Linda. I stayed with him all night. He had 2 roommates. Not one person got sleep. Mike was in unbearable pain and the other guys were in and out of surgery all night. They had decided that Mike would not need a Halo but will need to be in a neck brace for 6 weeks. They concluded today the chest pain is from broken cartilage in the ribcage. I just got him home a few hours ago. He was well medicated and thought he could come down for dinner. On the way he slipped on the stairs and fell. The sound was like a wild animal dying. I thought I was going to throw up. I got him back to bed and prayed he didn't make his broken neck worse.
O.K. so to make a long story short -- We have been to hell and back--- I am not quiet sure what our plans will be over the next month."
Mike's a nice guy, but I think he needs to tone his riding down a little to match his abilities.. this isnt his first nasty get off....
Anybody see this happen, or know the trail he was on?
Fall Down, Go Boom....

Had a good friend of mine get air lifted out close to the powerline during one of my poker runs. Got hit head on by a buggy that was coming down hill with only rear brakes. I'm just healing up from tearing a few ligaments from my sternum as well along with irritating my cervical spinal impingement again! Sucks for sure!!

UPDATE:
"Mike has been in excruciating pain, more so his chest than his neck. They had taking half a dozen x-rays in the hospital but all of them were of him laying down. I took him to the doc on Thursday where they took an x-ray of him standing up. There it was, a broken and displaced sternum. They said he was lucky it didn't pucture his heart. Both his broken neck and broken sternum could have killed him. It is by God's grace he is alive.
I am doing well. I think I will have my meltdown once Mike is better and things are back to normal."
I posted this in case other Hoons have a similar issue somewhere in their life.
