Post by riverman »

New Acerbis tank came today. After 1 disaster and 2 leakers tanks. Should I do this one or send it to some one that has had success modding tanks?

On our gen 4 250 build, Sold Bro welded 90 degree bends off the head so the tank did not have as much area to heat and move

I have had the new tank a while. Was going to send it out to have it modded. With plenty of time and not much to do I decided this morning I could do it my self. Two heat guns and a gallon of water I started. Got it hot i mean hot you could smell it. Pushed it in poured the water on it and now the results. Looks kinked at 3 and 9 oclock hope it does not leak. Put it on the bike it fit great plenty of room for the hoses and plug.

Buy another and send it to someone who can do it right or fab an aluminum tank. The only reason I tryed this one is the weather here in southern Ohio has been great for December and I'm off of work for a week and I want to ride!!! Forecast is 50 degrees all week. It will be muddy but I can handle that.
Bob I don't like how the tank looks kinked at 3 and 9 oclock. Your looks to have a smooth radius in your how to thread. That is exactly where the stock tanks start leaking.
I can tell the rest the Acerbis is easier than the stock tanks. It must be made of a different material.

You didnt fill it with water to test it? I think it will be fine.

The stock tank is polypropeylene and the Acerbis is polyeythelyene.. or is that the other way around?

You prolly' could have used more heat....

My tank had a small kink at the thickest point at 9 oclock..

I could have used more heat too....

2.9 Gallons. I did not measure how much it held after the modifaction. But I would say it loses very little.
