HELP WON'T START AFTER REBUILD
HELP WON'T START AFTER REBUILD
Done a new topend and new waterpump seals. Put it togather done a leak down test 6lbs for 10 minutes. Put a 99cr250 ignition on it . It will not start. Put the 500 stuff back on it last night it still will not start. It was running when I took it apart. The 250 ignition seems very weak very little spark . The 500 has great spark. But will not fire. Reeds are in good shape. It has more compression than before I have not put a gage on it. i cleaned the carb before before reinstalling it.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No rags stuffed. I have checked connection and double checked. Pulled the carb and checked it today again nothing found. I checked the compression while it was apart 130psi the motor has not been fired. Does any one know the distance the pulse coil is supposed to be fron the fly wheel. I set at about .004 on both ignition. I have a 500 manual but nothing noted about the pulse coil only how to test it.
Finally got it started. I read a bunch of threads and they were saying to run the ground from the cdi to the motor. I had it grounded to one of the coil mount bolts on the frame (where it usally is). Extended it down to the motor fired right up.
Then the dam kicker broke. I couldnt get it to idle. I'm thinking jetting it has a 58 pilot and 175 main I can't read the needle. i'm at 500ft msl. What do you think????????

Which carb? Makes big difference on what pilot.

Agreed--and I should have mentioned that my jetting requirements are probably leaner than his. But don't you think a 58 is probably fat in any setup?
FTR, 40.5 PWK, Boyeson RadValve, and major league porting. Yes, it surprised me how lean I had to jet the bike.

pilot jet
I have been working on the pilot jet. I read threads on jetting from several sights. Some info the motor is totaly rebuilt PJ carb 58 pilot 175 main the needle I can't read it has a clean filter. The air screw out 1.5 to 1.75 turns out. The screw is flat on the end is this right or should it be pointed? Maybe I need a new screw.
Starting cold takes several kicks on about the 4th or 5th it give a big backfire or whoof. Then usally starts in one or 2 kicks later. Then starts ok after warm up.
It is real sluggish taking off. I tryed adjusting the air screw per the thread on this sight. Idle set high turn the screw in as soon as I get about half or 3/4 of a turn in the engine dies. The screw is still about a turn or littles less out. So which way should I go bigger or smaller with the jet.

Re: pilot jet
You should go to the nearest dumpster and toss the PJ in.....riverman wrote:So which way should I go bigger or smaller with the jet.
