ok guys well i got round to going and seeing the "1990" sidecar.
when i got there the engine was black, so i immediately thought 80s engine.
i knew about the water pump needing sorted which doidnt bother me.
however the head stay was broke on the frame o the bike, the kickstart sat vibrating against the clutch cover and the splines were done on the kick start shaft, so had to bumpstart it.
after getting it going and having a look round, i allowed myself a price of atleast £300 to get it up to scratch for me to ride. but thats without seeing what gears etc are like.
got the engine number and what i have is PEO2E - 5502531
which i have been told is an 86/87 motor?
now here comes the numbers. in present state with me having to do work on the bike myself i can buy the sidecar for £800 GBP.
or i can buy a fully refurbed 85 engine for £1300 GBP
now which do i take the chance on.....
i read somewere about the earlier engines running a thinner swingin arm bolt. has anyone fitted these early engine to the af frame and if so how did you overcome this issue? sleave the bolt or hone out the casings?
if honed out the casings does this not weaken them?
good job i one some research

the 85 engine would work out round 1900 us dollars.
unfortuantely there isnt a great supply of engines over here in ireland.
if the engine had of been 1990 as advertised then all would have been grand.
dissapointed is an understatement.
so basically if i wasto use the older engine id need to fit newer crank cases anyway. not good.
back to the drawing board it is then
