just bought a 2001 sh cr500af?

Post by crf269 »

i just bought a nice 2001 service honda. i was wondering if there is any way to find out exactly what it had on it/how it was ordered? i called sh but they told me i needed the orig owners name to get the build sheet. i have his town but the 2nd owner did not remember the orig owners name. who can i get this info from? or just ride the balls off of it and forget about its pedigree.... Thanks!!!

They can't tell you by the VIN? That's a little bizarre. No matter. Just grab the right grip and twist judiciously, remembering to let off at the appropiate time. Especially if there is a tree in the line of fire. You're welcome.

Plenty of those working there. I went through 3 guys just to order a frikkin air boot. Wow. If you can get through, try AJ the owner. I believe his e-mail is on the website somewhere, that would be the least time consuming on his part, rather than 10 ph calls. Just a thought.

The way I understand it, he's not even an employee, he's a subcontractor who builds the bikes offsite... at his own shop.

Well apparently he is a lyin' sob too, because a couple of interviews I read he claims to be the owner. So what's the real story? Interesting. If you claim to be something you're not, in a business, and word gets out of that in magazines all over the world, you would look like a jackhole.

"AJ ,could you please tell us about your role in the Service Honda 500AF project?"

"I am operations manager of Service Powersports and my main duties are as project leader of the various models, in charge of designing, fabrication, promotion, scheduling and general oversight of the many projects."

Very interesting. I know the initial story and interview I read he claimed to be the owner and how that came to be. I would say MXA but I don't remember for sure. Maybe at 1 time he was and then sold out to focus on the AF side of it and he wasn't interested in running a business. Or lost the business and stayed as a worker in just that capacity. Do know 1 thing. Stopped in there a few years ago and bought a pipe. Place is a shithole in crime infested downtown Hammond In. and I was shocked. There were 3 trade-in 01 AFs sitting on the floor and they were SH builds and they were a P.O.S.! The "Y" was obviously cut out and replaced with a pc of solid stock shaped with a die grinder and a pc of THREADED ROD for a front motor mount bolt. You couldn't even find at least a proper bolt to make that at least half-assed right? Grim. For the mere sum of 7 large! I think I was there in 06 and I knew I wouldn't be leaving with 1. EVER!

To defend S/H ( Gasp!!!!!).... this frame no longer exists and they went well out of their way to make the owner happy, which he is.
