I had a rebuild once that wouldnt start for shit, I think it was because I gave everything a nice coat of 927 before I assembled it.
I must have kicked it for 30 mins before I even got a *choof*, once if finally fired it was good to go.
Sometimes motors just get mad at you for messing with them and they'll give you a hard time on the first fire
Get a fresh plug, grab a beer and start kicking in 3 mins shifts untill she finally gives up being stubborn and fires

It's funny that you say that Brit. I bought that '02 450 from Honda of Troy, got it in the crate, and it must have taken me 50 kicks to start the first time. After that, it would start within 3 kicks hot or cold.
The 500 tried to start once just now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll quit being stubborn SOON.
Thanks man!

Houston we have ignition!!!! It finally started. I think it was a combination of being new and poor technique on my part.
My 14 y/o son said it looked like I wasn't getting the kickstarter up high enough so I stood on a step stool and it started within 4-5 kicks.
Thank you all very much for the help. I really appreciate it!!!!

Glad that you got it started. That's some frustrating shit when that happens...to any bike. It's all technique and not how much you weigh. I'm only 160 lbs and I don't have any problems. My dad is 250+ and can't start a 5hundy just because he doesn't know how. I think it sounds more like ring dididing ding ding diding ding braaap

Your voice did sound a little rough when we were talking on the phone you should maybe take the morning off for family business or a sick day or TAPE A FLASH LIGHT TO THE FRONT FENDER AND GO RIDE IT GOD DAMN IT! It's just what the Dr ordered

Well, it's been more of an assembly, wheel lacing/truing, etc, deal on my end Bob. AJ did the conversion and really hooked me up with the new engine. He's been incredible to work with.AlisoBob wrote:Thats one awesome homebuild...
Glad the site could help!
This site, like today, has been a great help and it's been a pleasure watching those that build their own, build their own. I can't wait to see what "Dr. Mike" and others have instore for us next.

Oh, man, she rode great. It really surprised me how well it handled compared to my former '03 CRF450. Even with the stock 250 settings, it was just glued in the corners. The motor is super smooth and shifts like butta'! The 450 didn't shift anything close to as smooth as this.
The only negative at all compared to the 450 thumper was the vibration. The 450 had none. By the third ride, I really didn't notice it anymore on the 500.
Thanks guys!
