at first i thought the vibration might cause a problem with clamps hitting the rads. not the case though. i havent experienced any problems at all. once everything is tightened, nothing moves. theres actually a fairly good amount of room, and like i said, once everything is tightened then nothing moves at all. need your clamps facing a certain way though. dont want the big screw head facing into the cores for obvious reasons. common sense will guide the way once you get to putting it all together :lol: :lol:

turn the clamp over so the worm drive is on the other side simple fix

unless the screw head is actually facing directly into the cores there isnt a problem. maddogs looks fine to me :cool:

basically what you have to do is install the gauge and clamps and see where the best position is. i used some larger clamps on the ktm, couldnt turn the worm gear to the outside, had to turn it a different way. just have to adjust everything as you go.

I appreciate the tip and I checked it out. The photo makes it look like the clamps are closer to the radiator than they really are. An optical conclusion of sorts. The hose would also have to overpower (push out of the way) the lower crossover hose to get the clamps to touch the radiator. One may wonder why I put them on that way in the first place. I like to keep the worm drive in, where the hoses connect at the radiator. The next one down fits better toward the radiator ends up at an odd angle and hard to get to if put on the gauge side. Then the one under the gauge ended up on that side to keep everything on the same side. All that being said, I may flop the bottom one to the other side.

don't know on the 500. On my YZ I stay around 190 f racing up oldsmobile at glamis winter time, but far from cold out. Temp goes up in deep sand / slower speed. Richening up the jetting on bottom helps out alot. Remember in this location it is measuring at the hottest point, the outlet.

alot of factors. read something that said 175 would be considered normal. these bikes can heat/cool pretty rapid though

mine hits 170 (the fan switch) only when im going slow in trails, or up a long hill, which is quite often
i keep it jetted as lean as i can on the bottom without having it stall too easy
heres the biggest open spot on "the happy trail" , lots of logs and lots of deadfall left there to make it better

and by the tougher obstacles theres happy balloons, and theres people overheating, and people looking at a log thats across the trail level with their front fender going"wtf this is in the race", and people that just retuned their pipe... and happy balloons :D

without a fan ill boil if i stop at all when its hot out (on the happy trail), but if i keep moving and its not a mudbog, or up the side of a mountain in 1st for a mile i wont boil, without a fan
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

hey any chance you could make a quick call to your buddy and have him check the ID of the spigots ? eventually i need 2 gauges (one for a honda and one for a ktm), need atleast one right away though. heres the thing though, honda head spigots are 1/2" ID with 9/16" ID hose. ktm is 5/8" ID spigot with 11/16" ID hose. depending what size your buddies block is, might have to use one of yours for the honda and then get a esr for the ktm becuase the ID is big. dont want to run it on the ktm if the ID is smaller than 5/8" but it would work fine on the honda. make sense ?

I went to Jay's place today and picked up 6 gauge blocks

ID is 5/8"
OD is 3/4"
OD at Barb is .800 (almost 13/16")
Over all length is 3 1/2"
Gauge hole is 3/8" female pipe thread.

checking into getting thermometers. if you are in a hurry and want wo gauge pm me
