Hi Matt, I am building a CRF450R 06 very similar to yours. I used a 2000 model CR250 air boot. I was able to use the 450 air filter. When I fitted it up I only had about 5mm gap between the boot and the box. A bit too small a gap for Shaggy's adaptor plate that I was originally going to use.

air boot

Post by matt in aus »

thanks for the posts people, ive ordered the 99 250 2 stroke boot which with shaggys headstays it should fit, the 07 r seems to differ a little from the 09 450x, shaggy seems to be able to run the engine a little flatter, his honda on the clutch cover seems to sit straighter than mine, mines only slightly off but yes having the engine forward will sit the crank a little lower which is arguably a better thing, ive read that these gen four conversions are easy but ive found this one to be testing as ive tried to get it milimeter perfect so that everthing will fit back together with little mods for each, i spent along time rocking the engine and refiting parts to check alignment its 6 of 1 and a half a dozen off the other, i think ive about middled it for that, i hope when the air boot turns up it fits, i have shaggys adaptor so it could be :) or
i will get somemore photos up soon
thanks speedway501 i will definately double check that

G'day Matt,
I'm doing a 2007 CRF 450 X conversion shortly. If you're looking for an engine to replace the exploded one in the first few photos, I will have a low mileage (3200 km) X engine available soon. Give us a yell if your interested.

they are not adjusted here yet but at welding time they worked a treat, you could feel the frame pulling around by adjusting the bolts athough once adjusted i left it, maybe a 1/4 inch wider than the engine mount points and left it at that, i removed them when cooled, she fits like a glove, these also helped to stop the rails from twisting when welding which i though could of been a problem
i will get some more pics soon
