alloy testing

Post by 100hp honda »

well heres the deal. it will be too expensive to test every piece of the frame but i can do 2-3 areas. i was thinking the down tube, cradle tubes or Y and the cast side pieces that the foot pegs are bolted to. since these areas are where all the welding will be done and i cant afford to test everything, it makes sense to me that these areas are what i should test. if all 3 areas test as the same alloy, im going to "assume" the rest of the chassis is the same. also ill probly get hardness and conductivity test done to determine if there was post weld heat treatment done. is there something different i should do ? anybody got input to add before i do the testing ? wish i could test the entire chassis to be 100% sure what it is but that aint possible right now.

You picked all the obvious stuff- make sure that you get a non contaminated sample, not sure how to gouge out a piece without contaminating it.

You could sample the weld fillet too to see what they are using to fill with.
