Wow, old 400 Maico coffin tank . . . had one as a youngster, followed by a sucession of 490's through the late 70's . . . . wonder if that's where I got the sickness for big-bore 2 smokers ?

This was also my first bike. Mine was a '79. The old man bought it for me when I was like 10 years old. that bike took more RPM's than any bike i have ever ridden. that thing went everywhere pinned. never had any issues other than typical top end replacement. Matter of fact, my cousin still rides it!
And it was oil injected so when I got my first pre-mix i was like "wtf is this?!"
I just have to say this after Bob posted the minibike.
That's actually the first bike I ever rode.
When I was a kid, my dad would take me to work with him on sundays.
He was a manager of WT Grants in Anderson SC, sorta like Wal-Mart today.
There were blue laws back then and nothing was open on sunday so he would catchup on paperwork and get me out of my moms hair.
Anyway, he would let me ride the minibikes in the parking lot.
I rode those bikes every sunday, all day!
I don't know if it was the excitement of the ride or the vibration but, it made my balls tingle and I was hooked!
Mine looked just like that too! I think my Dad traded someone for the frame (or he stole it, who knows). He always had little engines laying around the shop but at that age I didn't really pay much attention to what they were. All I know is that my best friend and I rode the wheels off of it until she rode out in front of a truck and almost got squished. Dad took it away and they started buying me Barbie dolls. LOL!
A CR500 is a thing of beauty whatever the frame is made of, but me, I'd rather ride a hoon!
That was my first attepmt at modding an engine, took the Gov off! Then I could beat my buddies Z50! Only lasted for a few days after that, but damn it was fast
This is almost a clone of my first bike, I'd give ANYTHING to have it back.....
i have one nearly identical to that, minus the rear grab bar and the chain guard. i fabbed my own chain guide.
oh, and the handlebar forks have one more crossbrace, for the hanging of a front fender

My first bike, too! Also a '79. I wanted to be a MXer so bad so I took all the lights and the gauges and horn off. I have to admit, I do occasionally miss having a "reserve" in the fuel tank. Oil injection was pretty awesome, too. That pic brings back some serious memories. Thanks!

I love my Suzuki RGV-250, great bikes, killed alot of young riders thats why they were eventualy banned world wide.....funny that they returened 4yrs after there final run, 1998 i think to be sold off to Apprillia to become RS & SP-250's, all Apprillia 250 motor parts are interchangable with Suzuki
& a hell of alot cheaper.
Mine still reaks hovake on the big bore bikes at our local track.
