CR250 Ignition Timing
Post up your results as goes stator timing using the CR250 ignitions. List year, if advanced, retarded, in the middle or had to slot stator plate to go further in either direction. Seems to be a lot of different thoughts / experiences going around.

NICE, you take the time to reply but only hand me a half ass answer. Bob should have banned you for good!
Personally I am really staring to think the whole 500 community is full of shit! Do any of you really ride your bikes? Half ass and conflicting answers is all I get

correct. jbaze had it backwards2strokekyle wrote:Correct me if I am wrong but rotating the stator counter-clockwise would make it fire later in relation to the flywheel position, therefore retarding the timing. Turning it clockwise or agaist the rotation would trigger sooner.

eyesky it wasnt meant to be a half ass answer. just trying to help you think about the answer, there for you can better understand it.

Just looking for a straight answer on the timing... Had 90 days of with snow on the ground with sub freezing weather and now that the thaw is here; I really hate to take it out improperly set and burn the bitch up. Been told everything from 10 degrees retarded to 10 degrees advanced.

Stupid part is, at least running down the block and back; I can not tell any difference in the power, with the stator dead center, advanced or retarted with in the movement allowed by the stock slots.
My guess would be that is about 4 or 5 degrees either way.

I left mine at the mark. You won't notice any difference unless its under a load or you are having starting issues. I tried advancing and found that there was a very small amount of more bottom end and totally lost all topend.

I seen some were on here...or maybe on the politicly correct site some very good pictures of a motor being set @ TDC (top dead center) and a dial indicator on the fly wheel having it's timing set, it looked like an old cam dial, & a full Dyno run on the Digital , analog , and mixing the coils around back to back dyno tests .... seems the 250 stator plate and late 125 fly wheel were the winners if i remember correctly, you'd better do some searching to make sure.
Gregrobo, recons 11-10degrees advance worked for him...PM him and find out.
As for 1/2 arsed fix ups, were using motors that are hard to sorce parts and in our own way trail blazers in our quests to fix and improve our rides, some times it's hit & miss and others it's right on the money.
This site has far more Tech knowledge then the politicly correct site and there more then willing to share it, so be a sponge and suck it up then squeeze it and you my just find the answers your looking for.

a good indicator of how much difference in timing between the 01 250 and the 01 500 is the flywheels put them together and line up the keys its about 10-11 degrees thats the start point

ok, back on the jetting with pump gas this spring
88 250 ignition, at 0

needle DGJ - 1468N @ 4th clip
slide #6
with a fatty pipe, stock reed, non modified fmf powercore, stock squish ml3R head thats milled down, 87 cases with the small o.d. sleeve 89+ style jug at 89.25 and stil has scallops
by far the best the bike has ever run, did a little shootout between my bros bike (he figured was faster) and mine.
He's basically stock porting, excellent work ing PJ, vf2 reed, pc pipe + shortened pc silencer
my bike comes out of the hole HARD and pulls to more rpm than his revvs, isnt too rnagy either, he can stuff all the gear it has into it as fast as he wants and it wont kill the engine,
his bike is soft out of the hole, comes on like 1000 rpm later or more, and pulls hard for a bit, cant really feel it come into power either, then falls off up top, it'll take gear til 4th then it just kills rpm
I'm yanking my engine out as soon as i hit the dyno with it, then the 2010 porting engine is going in for some mild goon riding before it hits the dyno
