I agree whole heartedly, I would hate to see a Hoon lose good money on dodgy workmanship. ( not saying that it is though )

The questions are based on that I think most of us have not ever seen anything like that. My thought would be the clearance with that area of the piston. seems to me it would get extraordiarily hot, not to mention it would seem to remove some or alot of the integrity of the structure of the piston. I would think, but what the hell do I know!

OK,
1stly the scuff lines in the piston originaly were bearly noticable with a finger nail before the blasting.
Richard uses a plastic bead then washes the piston in the parts washer then carby cleaner & blown dry, i then gave it a pure 2stroke oil massage.
(motul 800)
His therory is that it dimples the serface so that more oil will stick to it.
It does not make it thinner, weaker, destorted, he used one of those mini booths, he blasted it in about 10sec's.
It took longer to mask it up.
He has been doing this for years with the formula 500's in speedway applications with zero failures, i'd agree with CR500R7 it is no more likely to fail or heat up then any other mod...say drilling holes in it for arguments sake.....
Also (i'm a chef) Jbase is of the oppinion that a mat finish will get hotter and to an end i do agree...example....if you were to slow bake somthing in the oven what side of the foil do you face out...................................
The matt side as the reflective side directs heat away so you get an uneven cooking area....But cooking trays arnt watercooled are they & my radiator is what id term as a high flow unit (see other thread)
